A Studio Full of Animals
This text is written by art historian Hester Wandel, who steps into my studio and observes the space, the work and everything that moves within it.
Freedom and movement are words that perfectly describe artist Leonoor Ruigrok (1973), also known as L.A.C.E. Ruig. In her studios, she works in several locations, she experiments with various types of paint and charcoal to express her emotions. Fully absorbed in the moment, she often forgets that her dogs and cat are wandering around her. They follow her closely, even during the recording of the podcast.

The Studio of L.A.C.E. Ruigrok
Leonoor draws inspiration from the stories her father used to tell and the rugged landscapes of Iceland, which she frequently visits. The rag doll in the shape of a hare, which featured in those stories, later evolved in her work into a large anthropomorphic figure. Recently, Leonoor opened the drawers in her studio and found herself inspired all over again.
Boat and bulbs
Her works are also growing in scale. Fortunately, she has another studio on a small plot of land nearby. She takes Hester Wandel there by boat to take a look. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the flower bulb region, with chickens roaming around, she finds new sources of inspiration.
