Budapest Hotel | Art Series by Leonoor Ruigrok

The Budapest Hotel series was born from a place of rupture, yet it moves beyond darkness. What began as fragments of memory has unfolded into layered images, where absence and presence weave together. Each work carries the rhythm of transformation, turning what wounds into a space for resilience, reflection, and light.

Symbolic colors

The colors in the Budapest Hotel series arose as a protest against the grey and desolate environment I found myself in. Inspired by Wes Anderson’s film The Grand Budapest Hotel, I embraced his vivid palettes of pinks, reds, and blues as a counterweight. These tones became a way to reclaim energy and create images that speak of transformation rather than decay..

reveals layers

Painted in acrylic on paper, the series reveals layers that echo both fragility and strength. Shapes emerge and dissolve, suggesting that every moment holds the possibility of renewal.

seed of Change

What seemed broken carries within it the seed of change. In Budapest Hotel, forms evolve into symbols, of silence, of waiting, of the quiet force that remains. More about the symbols and narrative >

mirrors

The series does not seek to explain but to evoke. It mirrors the way we carry our experiences: altered, reshaped, and sometimes transformed into unexpected beauty. Read about the Artist vision > Available artworks >
