From the Dreamland collection
Soft Hope began with something familiar. I had already painted many works in my Icelandic Houses series, returning again and again to the small house in an immense landscape. In this painting, the house became more of a hut. Somewhere you could simply be for a while.
The landscape around it seems almost empty. Yet, to me, there is a great deal happening in its atmosphere. I was drawn to that mysterious quality, to the feeling of being somewhere without quite knowing what surrounds you.
Transition to Dreamland
I painted Soft Hope in oil on canvas in 2025, building up the image in layers. I followed what happened on the canvas rather than working towards a predetermined result. Looking back, I see this painting as a transition between Icelandic Houses and Dreamland.
Space for interpretation
But I don’t want to explain every part of it. I put my feelings and energy from that time into the painting. What someone else finds in it may be something entirely different, and I like leaving that space open.
