Much of my practice is rooted in magical realism, it gives me the freedom to image my reality through symbols, dreamlike spaces, and the world as I feel it. To some it may sound abstract, yet to me it is clear as day. It is not fantasy but my own truth, a way to carry mood and feeling.

It is also part of being a woman for me: a balance between layered softness and, at times, the unexpected fierce. In thick impastos. In layered oil and mixed media I look for balance: soft beside raw, sometimes unexpectedly fierce.
In this brief note I share why I work with symbols (a hare that listens, a deer that stands) and how they arrive intuitively. Only later do I see what they carry.
