Some spaces immediately slow you down
Visiting Schuur De Wilde for the first time during the preparations for Kunstschouw Zeeland 2025 felt exactly like that. The barn was already open for artists exhibiting there during the exhibition period, allowing us to walk through the space before the work arrived.
The Space
Schuur De Wilde carries a certain calmness. The height of the barn, the rough walls, the daily pigeons on the roof, the changing daylight moving through the space, everything creates a different rhythm than the studio.
Empty, the space already felt alive.

Seeing the Work There
During a location visit like this, I’m not only looking at walls or measurements. I’m observing how paintings might breathe inside the environment.
Some works seem to become quieter in large open spaces. Others suddenly gain tension or movement. Especially the layered works from Icelandic Houses, Keepers, Flow, and It’s Nature felt connected to the atmosphere of the barn almost immediately.
The Surroundings
Zeeland itself plays an important role in that feeling.
The openness of the landscape, the wind moving through fields and dunes, the quiet roads between villages, everything slows the eye down. It creates space for looking differently, both at art and at the environment surrounding it. We click with Zeeland. And we have found a spot for our fishing boat so that we can spend the night there as well.

Looking Ahead
Kunstschouw Zeeland 2025 will take place from 14–22 June in Schouwen-Duiveland.
I will be exhibiting at Location 31, Schuur De Wilde in Scharendijke, presenting a curated selection of works shaped by movement, symbolism, landscape, and inner reflection.
