Can I view available works during a studio visit?

Yes, you can view available works during a studio visit.

Seeing available works in person

During a studio visit, you can see a selection of original works that are currently available. This may include paintings, works on paper, artist studies, mixed media pieces or selected studio archive works.

Not every available work is always on view in the same way. Some pieces are hanging. Some are stored carefully. Some are resting against a wall, waiting for the right light or the right moment. Quite normal in a working studio. A studio is not a white cube where everything behaves perfectly. Thankfully.

If you are interested in a specific work from the website, it is helpful to mention this when booking your visit. Then I can make sure the piece is ready to be seen properly, if it is still available.

Why the studio changes how you see a work

A painting does not only exist as an image. It has a body.

You see the size differently when you stand near it. You notice the skin of the surface, the layers, the rougher marks, the quiet places, the parts that almost disappear. Some works are softer in real life. Others are much more direct. A colour that looked gentle on a screen may suddenly have more force. Or the other way around.

This is also why I do not think choosing art should always happen quickly. Sometimes a work needs time. Sometimes you know immediately. Sometimes you walk past it once, twice, and then it begins to stay with you.

That is part of the visit too.

Available works, studies and studio archive pieces

Besides larger finished works, you may also see artist studies or studio archive pieces. These works can be a good way to enter the practice more quietly. They often carry first gestures, material decisions, fragments of a series or ideas that later moved into larger works.

For me, these pieces are not leftovers. They are part of the studio’s memory. Sometimes they show the hand even more directly.

During the visit, we can look at what is available, what belongs to a certain series, what is framed, what can be taken home directly, and what may need preparation or transport.

There is no obligation to choose anything during the visit.

If a work moves you, we can talk about price, size, availability and practical details clearly and without pressure. If you need time afterwards, that is fine too. A work may also stay where it is.

Careful looking matters. Especially when a work might become part of your daily surroundings.
