The houses I saw in Iceland

The colours stayed with me too. Iceland was much less colourless than I had imagined. The landscape kept changing, and so did the light.

In the Icelandic Houses series, I began working with the strength I felt in both the landscape and the houses. That dynamic between appearing vulnerable and yet being sturdy and strong interests me enormously.

I am still exploring it in my work: what that dynamic can mean in paint and other materials, and how I can translate the feeling I brought back from those journeys into an image.

Islandic Houses, Islandic Spaces; an art series inspired by the fantastic colors, vastness, and sense of freedom in the Icelandic landscape.
